Apostate prophet feels abandonned; do not take Jews and Christians as friends?

In answer to the video "The Hateful World of Islam"

Muslims may be friends with any people of any race and religion, provided these people are not seeking to harm them, physically or spiritually. This is just common sense.

After this defeat at Uhud, Muslim morale was down especially knowing that the victory was theirs had the archers stood by the Prophet's commands instead of submitting to their greed. Victory, as already demonstrated to the Muslims in the previous battle of Badr, is not something in their hands, no matter their military preparedness, but something in God's hands. It is firstly contingent on the level of discipline and spiritual uprightness, which they clearly showed at Badr. Had God allowed victory in this case despite all the indisciplines, defections and greed that took place, it would have instilled a wrong mindset for future military affairs, let alone general principles of life. Muslims might have felt in addition that victory was theirs because of who they were and not what they did. For these reasons, the prophet said in relation to Uhud
“If I were to choose between victory or defeat at Uhud, I would choose defeat.”

Similary military setbacks were suffered by the Jews during their conquest of Canaan under divine order and for the same reasons. Joshua had commanded on oath that no one was to keep any of the booty from the city for himself Josh6:17-19. However it took only 1 disobedience to arouse God's anger, who cursed them and left them at the mercy of their enemies that chased them away, smiting many of them and causing the disheartening of all the others Josh8. It wasnt until the crime was discovered and the culprit stoned to death and his posessions burned, that God resumed His assistance of the Israelites in battle.

Anyways, when news of this Muslim setback spread, it rejoiced the Jews, idolators, and Muslim hypocrites in Medina and in Mecca. Rumor was even spread that Muhammad got killed in battle. In this moment of duress (which the early muslims went through many times before) Allah reminded the believers not to fall for their base desires and wrong habits which were still found in them to some extent.

The Quran seizes that time of hardship to cleanse the believers spiritually, it is in moments of duress that one's moral resolve is tested and enhanced. They are called to do good by spending for the welfare of society in ease as well as in straitness, abandonning completely interest taking which is a cancer blocking the well-being of society. These directives showing the believers how to remove the obstacles on their path to God and a happy society were given in 9 verses in 3:130-8.

The enemies of Islam from within and outside the community took advantage of this moment of weakness and pessimism by inciting strife and disunity among them 3:69,99-100,173. Some Muslims shallow in faith
5:52"in whose hearts is a disease"
would yield and listen to them and take them as awliya'/guardians or protectors. These are the munafiqeen, or hypocrites, whom God condemned for their half-heartedness. While dimly perceiving the truth, they remained unwilling to surrender themselves to it, fearing alienation from an environement in which they profited. They would then swear false oaths to deceive the remaining Muslims so that they all be alike
2:204-5,60:13,58:14-20"..They make their oaths to serve as a cover so they turn away from Allah's way..".
Allah reminded the Muslims that He is the One on Whom
14:12"the reliant rely",
qualified the righteous in the hereafter as the one whose heart is "munib", a powerful word denoting the persistence in pointing in a single direction, like a compass pointing northward no matter which way or condition it is in. This was the characteristic of prophets the like of David and Solomon, who despite being possessors of power and authority turned to Allah again and again 38:17,30. This spiritual resolve leads one to be uncompromising as regards the truth, and it was the greatest feature of the best elements among the Muslims. No power could turn them away from supporting their prophet's cause. This inner spiritual clarity made them distinguish so clearly between truth and falsehood that they kept, even in those times of trials, the firmest stance against the disbelievers, all the while remaining soft towards the believers, with whom they maintained strong bonds of love and harmony, bonds based on truth 48:29,66:9.

Hardness and toughness against a disbelieving nation is a primary criteria of success demanded from God to the messengers, as stated to Ezekiel who was about to be sent to the transgressing Israelites
Ezek3:8-9"Behold I have set your face hard against their face and your forehead hard against their forehead. As shamir, stronger than flint, I have set your forehead; fear them not, neither shall you be intimidated by them".
The prophets are not to fear the people in the process, for they are under God's watch, they must therefore confront them courageously
5:67"O Messenger! proclaim the (message) which hath been sent to thee from thy Lord. If thou didst not, thou wouldst not have fulfilled and proclaimed His mission. And Allah will defend thee from men (who mean mischief)".
